Can a home be different than what we already think of it?
This competition presented a challenge that was difficult to express, how to create a home whose design is unique on its own, but adapts to the style of its neighbourhood and make it cost effective as public housing? The answer was simple, the home was conceived from the inside out. Inside the home, a service core that houses the home's stairs, bathrooms and kitchen allowed for the living spaces to be free of internal walls and allowed for the layout of spaces to be made efficient and clear to the user, with windows and doors being used to reflect the operation of spaces inside and allowing for the optimal usage of light and ventilation within the home. This home was a finalist in the Habitat for Humanity Studio.
